Obituary of Margaret Hazel Hearnden

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hearnden: Margaret Hazel (nee Davidson) B.A. Queens University 1953 Peacefully at Hillsdale Estates Oshawa on Saturday October 22, 2016 in her 89th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years James (Jim) Gamble Hearnden, daughter Susan Margaret and parents Percy Douglas and Hazel Mae (Sullivan) Davidson. Will be missed by sister Elizabeth Laugharne (of Victoria BC), and children Janet Henderson and Jeffrey Hearnden. Cherished Grandma to Sydney Hearnden, Laura and Scott Henderson, Katherine (Ryan) Whitsitt, and great-granddaughter Katelyn Whitsitt. Margaret was born in Hamilton Ontario, the second daughter to Percy and Hazel. She graduated in 1946 from Hamilton Normal School and taught elementary school in Hamilton and Kingston. She then attended Queens University where she met Jim, the love of her life, and they married in 1952. Those university years were a wonderful time in their lives and they moved back to Kingston when Jim retired. They spent time hiking, taking classes at the university, involvement with alumni and travelling. Margaret and Jim also cherished the friendships they found at St. John’s Anglican Church in Portsmouth. Margaret’s later years were spent at Rosewood Retirement in Kingston where she again found new friends. In her final months, she moved to Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa to be closer to family. Dementia robbed her of her memories but we are left with loving thoughts of a strong, sweet sister, mom, grandma, aunt and friend. Arrangements entrusted to DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive Oshawa (905) 440 3595. A private family memorial service will be held in the spring 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Kidney Foundation would be appreciated. Margaret kept this by her bedside. She and Jim are now together again.
