Halina
For those who didn’t know her, Halina appeared to be a quiet and unassuming woman, who worked hard for her family. Perhaps even she didn’t realize the powerful imprint she leaves behind as a role model to her children, a reliable and loyal partner to her husband and affable companion to her friends. She didn’t need acknowledgment and approval to feel secure about who she was. Halina didn’t labor over what could have been or should have been, she accepted life’s challenges as they came and made the most of every situation without fuss. In the same way we didn’t need her arms around us to feel embraced. She lived her love for us with sheer unwavering support and constant gentle presence. There is no better example of a life built on a foundation of mutual respect, admiration and devotion than in the way she spent the last few years with our father. With the arrival of children she experienced immense pleasure and in the last years of her life she reveled in being a grandmother to Heather, Stephen, Justin and Eric. Her values are what we live by everyday. We are reminded of her incredible work ethic, when we in our own lives, feel overwhelmed. She showed us the importance of commitment and following through on our word. Her strength and quiet fortitude and commitment to family inspired us as we began our own families. She showed us that love isn’t always about big bear hugs. A gesture, a look and a quick phone call were the ways she stayed connected. The expressions we use, the way we live our lives, the values we pass onto our children are rested in the woman that she was, and in that sense she will never leave us.
