April 23, 2017 Dearest family, I fondly remember 'Mr. Woodward' as my grade 8 homeroom teacher at E.A. Lovell Public School in Oshawa. He used to write a topic on the blackboard each morning to which we all had to write a one-page response in our 'Thought For The Day' exercise book. We were also sectioned into groups for daily morning skits that we rehearsed and presented to our classmates. I will always carry a soft spot in my heart for this man. It is with deep sympathy that I sent this short note. I was a parent volunteer in Doug's grade 7 class for some time. Doug was an amazing teacher. He was kind and calm which was much needed by his students. I am truly sorry to have just now learned of his passing. May he RIP.

My children, Luke and Victoria Helmer had the benefit of being taught by Doug and had nothing but good things to say about him as a caring and interesting teacher. As for myself, I was part of a private French class taught by a colleague at her house and enjoyed our sessions which Doug attended, very much. He was a treasured colleague and great friend and will be miss by all of us who knew him. My sympathy to all his family members. Joan Zamora
