Obituary of Barbara Ella Wirsching
WIRSCHING, Barbara (nee Lockwood)
Passed away peacefully on the evening of July 11, 2021, with family members spending the day with her. Barbara was eighty eight. She passed with dignity and valour. Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband William Wirsching. Barbara leaves behind her loving children David Wirsching, Debra (Scott) Tresise, William (Christine) Wirsching, Donna (Brent) Read and Diana McCormack. Cherished Grandma of Kristy, Jesse, Kyle, Tyler, Trevor, Ashlie, Courtney and the late Angela. Barbara was a proud great grandmother of Willow, Miles, Theo, Ellie, Nixon, Kyle, Jack and Jade, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
Barbara was born on May 14, 1933. She married William Wirsching April 24, 1954. They spent the first 62 years of their marriage in the house that William and his father built. She dedicated her life to raising her family, always making meals and looking out for all of us. When it was time to come home for dinner, you could hear Mother calling out all five of our names and wherever we were in the neighborhood, we came running.
Barbara’s final 3 ½ years were spent at the Wynfield Long Term Care Nursing Home. Barbara was thankful for compassion, care and professionalism of the many healthcare workers who assisted her during her stay. Barbara also expressed gratitude for the many family and dear friends who stayed in touch, offering support.
Visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa (south side of Taunton Road, east of Thornton Road by the Oshawa Airport)905-440-3595 on Wednesday, July 21, 2021from 12:00-1:00pm. A Service to Celebrate Barbara’s life will be held in the DeStefano Chapel at 1:00pm. Barbara and William will be laid to rest at Oshawa Union Cemetery. In memory of Barbara, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
