Obituary of Salvatore Saturno

SATURNO; Salvatore "Sam" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Salvatore "Sam", surrounded by his family, on Friday, May 16, 2014. Born January 9, 1930, in Gioiosa Marea, Sicily, to Rosa and Pietro Saturno. Immigrating to Canada in 1959 with a dream for a better life, his entrepreneurial spirit and artisan skills led him to start a successful masonry business in 1963, and cofounding Midhaven Homes in 1986, an active participant up to his final days, his career always defined by his passion, honesty, and integrity. This passion extending to his love of gardening, music, and sharing stories with family and friends over a coffee or glass of wine, he was an inspiration to many. Sam is survived by the love of his life Tina (nee Cusma), his loving children Peter (Rosie), Rosa Cannella (Tony), and his cherished grandchildren Samuel, Amanda, Jessica, and her fiancé Chris Barnes. Sam lives in the hearts of his siblings Concettina Gaetano (Argentina), Tindara Giorgio (Sicily), Maria and Francesco Albis (Whitby), Catena and Giuseppe Ziino (Milano), Umberto and Sarina (Whitby), Antonino and Antonietta (Brampton), Julia and Domenico (Whitby), as well as brothers and sisters-in-law Nunziatina and Salvatore Cicero (Roma), Vince and Mitch Cusma (Whitby), and predeceased by Rosario Gaetano, Salvatore Giorgio, Sarina and Pietro Albis. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, godchildren, as well as countless friends. Sam's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Malek, as well as the exceptional staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, and particularly Lakeridge Health Bowmanville CCU. Visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa(south side of Taunton Road, east of Thornton Road)905-440-3595, on Tuesday, May 20th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 903 Giffard Street, Whitby, on Wednesday, May 21st at 10 am, followed by the entombment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby.
