Obituary of Sigismund Maier

Sigismund (Sigi) Maier, age 91 of Oshawa, passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa with family by his side.

 

Sigi was born in Krieglach, Austria to Julianna and Johann Maier on January 14th, 1933. He worked at General Motors B-Body for over 30 years and retired in the spring of 1994.  Sigi is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ingrid;  Children, Brenda (Joe) and Mike (Britt);  and, 5 grandchildren Derek, Jeffrey, Fallon, Jadyn and Declan.  

He enjoyed gardening and was forever walking. He was a family man, always involved with his children and grandchildren. Along with his dear wife, Ingrid, the love of his life, family was everything to him.   

Funeral service will be held at De Stefano Funeral Home on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at 12:30 PM with Pastor Peter Lisinski of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. 

In lieu of Flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Durham. 

The family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to Julie Buckingham, PSW of SE Health for her many years of assistance which continue on with Ingrid;  and, the entire staff at Rose Garden in Hillsdale Terraces and Oshawa Lakeridge Health for their kind care and assistance.
