Obituary of Ursula Bohme

Please share a memory of Ursula to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ursula drifted peacefully to “the next place” in the comfort of her own bed on September 3rd embraced with the love and gratitude of Sonja, Martina, Kristian and dear friend Anne. Born prematurely in November 1935, Ursula never stopped appreciating life despite numerous health challenges during her almost 87 years. Our Mum, Oma and beloved family member and friend is survived by children Sonja and Peter (Cindy), grandchildren Kristian (Amy), Martina (Jonathan), Bryan (Sarah) and Lisa (Zach), and great-grandchildren Madeline, Matthias, Violet, Emerson and Hayden. Ursula is survived by siblings in Germany, Herta, Heinz and Brunhilde and their families. She was predeceased by husband Gunter (1995), and siblings Heini, Willi, Anna, Karl, Gunter and Annemarie.

Ursula always worked hard, beginning in Eschwege, Germany when she was orphaned at 15; then starting a new life as an 18 year old in Adelaide, South Australia and soon thereafter creating a family; and again in 1967 emigrating to Canada with Gunter and their children. Her profession was as a Nurse’s Aide, caring for the elderly and frail for most of her life. Her physical stature may have been small, but she was larger than life, living with strength, tenacity and abundant love.

Ursula will never be forgotten by anyone who knew her. She had a huge generous heart; laughed easily, and loved bringing joy and laughter to others; had a mischievous sense of humour; was a fantastic cook and baker; never held a grudge; opened her arms and welcomed anyone, anytime; and had an immense love of life and lived each day with vitality. Ursula’s greatest pride and joy were all children, she became “Oma” to everyone. Her grand and great-grandchildren were blessed to have had her in their lives, and being lavished with her unending love and kindness.

We are grateful to Ursula's compassionate and dedicated health care team for the past many years, particularly Dr John Lee and Pharmacists Karim and Farooq.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa, a charitable organization which Ursula supported since Gunter died.

Our dearest Mum, Oma and friend, we will always love you, we have learned so much from you, your spirit will live on in us, and you will be remembered forever.

Visitation will be at DeStefano Funeral Home on Saturday October 29th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm; Celebration of Life (by invitation) on Sunday October 30th, will be livestreamed.
